Did you go to your Prom? Would you like a do-over? Here’s your chance!
WORT is celebrating its 40th anniversary—that YOU made possible—with the WORT People’s Prom. We’re going back to our first year of broadcasting, 1975, and inviting you to bask in the music, dances, and fashion of that time.
Where and when: East Side Club, Capitol Room, Saturday, April 2, 8pm until ???
The Capitol Room has a full wall of windows facing Lake Monona and the downtown Madison skyline.
Dress code: whatever you want, but 70s fashion is preferred. Jeans and a tie-dyed t-shirt work, as does a polyester leisure suit, platforms and a maxi dress, tuxedo, strappy gown, you name it. There will be a “Best 1975 Costume” contest, with the two winners named Queen and King of the prom, so get your sparkle on!
Music: We’ve reserved the very best 70s dance band in the world, VO5. We wouldn’t hold a 70s prom without them. Plus, WORT DJs will be rocking the dance floor, while dance instructors teach (re-teach?) us The Hustle and The Electric Slide. We’re going on a party ride!
We will also be honoring the only host to be with WORT since 1975, Rockin’ John McDonald, with a Rockin’ John impersonation contest. So listen to Rockin’ John on I Like it Like That, Saturdays, 6–8 pm, and hone your very best impression, while enjoying great 50s and 60s rock’n’roll.
Tickets are $40 each and include admission, one Ballroom Blitz (the prom specialty drink), and an evening of the most fun you’ve had in years! Purchase tickets online at http://www.wortfm.org or call (608) 256-2001. Space is limited; get your tickets before they’re gone!
Names will be added to the WORT guest list.
